There was once a young horse called Louie. Louie had creamy, chocolate brown eyes. He had a black coat with a black mane and tail.

Louie lived in a clean, red stable with all the horses. The farmer looked after all the horses well and always changed his stall every week.

Louie's talent was that he could have any horse-rider riding him bareback. Even a high jump was easy. But one day he saw a jump that looked too high for him. Louie was scared. In the end, he felt brave enough and jumped the jump and... he made it!!!! So from then on, he had the courage to do the rest of the high jumps in the course.

Cry Of The Taniwha. by Des Hunt. my book review

In the village of Ohinemutu, in a hotel room, sat Jack Boult getting ready for the night he had planned. While everyone in the hotel was out on a hill to watch an astonishing event Jack had crept away to get ready. But ready for what? Well Jack was a cat burglar and in other words a thief. He just stole something very valuble from Mary and Edward Basham and ran away to Taupo so the person known as Jack Boult would cease to exist. Some time later Matt Logan dug up a skeleton with Jackson Peters by a mud pool in Rotorua. Is it one of the Bashams? Will the gang Jackson is going to join get involved? You will have to read this book to find out.

I liked the discovering of the skeleton and the descriptive language like 'the empty eye sockets were scary enough.' At the start of the book it grabbed my attention because Jack Boult snuck away and it made me think what is he going to do?

I wish the author had given a better description of Matt and Jackson because I didn't have a good picture in my head. One thing I would ask the author is why are you not making a movie of it because it has good drama, mystery and much more.

I think it is recommended for children aged 10 and up because it has difficult words in it.

Kason's book review on 'Chris Ryan'

Chris Ryans books are really jaw dropping. Every time you turn the page you will never want to stop reading.

I like these books because of all the action, drama and because there are lots of different books in the series.

I wish that in Wildfire and Outbreak that the books wouldn't end with 'To Be Continued'.

One thing I liked about these books was all of the action that Chris Ryan has put into the books.

I think these books are suitable for aged 10-12 years old because there are some killing parts not suitable for younger children. Boys would like these books more than girls because there is lots of guns, killing and action.

action/thriller

Troy's book review on Dinosaur Rescue by Kyle Mewburn and Donovan Bixley

These funny Dinosaur Rescue books will make you laugh so much you'll cry! These neanderthals are extremely dumb apart from one kid called Arg and 8 years old. Arg is a boy that saves dinosaurs from grogllgrox and hungry meateaters. Well Arg actally has a t-rex as his friend. read the 1'st book and find out how Arg gets his t-rex friend. There are heaps and heaps of bottoms in the Dinosaur Rescue books.

I like these Dinosaur rescue books because I like dinosaurs, I like chapter, theres funny drawings and theres 8 books to read.

I wish there was more Dinosaur Rescue books because I wanted to keep on reading dinosaur rescue books but the authors have started a new series called Dragon Night.

                                                                      ARG
                                                                      smart
                                                                      active
                                                                      fast
                                                                      good
                                                                      funny

I think Dinosaur Rescue is suitable for children aged for 7-10. You may find these books hilarious exciting, boring and cool

CHERUB Brighands M.C

CHERUB Brighands M.C is a story about a motorbike gang and how the father of the gang goes on a killing spree. Dante Scott and Holly Scott are the only survivors of their family. They both join a group called CHERUB and Dante becomes a agent to help get the father put where he belongs... behind bars.

I really liked this book,as the gang came to be a strong forceful and torturing gang who didn't care who they killed. This book was mostly set outside but some of the drama took place inside.

I wish that the author had told us more about the gang and how they went on bike trips. And it could of told us more a bit more about their rough gangs.

One thing I liked is that it described the characters very well. This author has spent a lot of time writing so that is why the describing words are so good. One thing I would ask the author is that why he didn't tell us what happened before he went to the police station.

One thing that the author could've done is add a few more characters because their were only six. Also  it got a bit boring after the killing. Over all CHERUB Brighands M.C is a good book, i think 10-13 is a good age because their some age appropriate langauge.

Speeches

In room 10 we have been doing speeches. We had a lot of topics to choose from I chose animals.
I chose three animals to research, the Sabre Tooth Tiger, the Wooly Mammoth and the Moa.
I found an astonishing fact about all of them:
The Sabre Tooth Tigers were not actually related to the modern tigers of Asia.
The Wooly Mammoth was not the only wooly prehistoric animal there was also the Wooly Rhino.
And the Moa's beak was as sharp as garden scissors and could easily cut a flax leaf.
My conclusion tells you that we should take care of the animals we still have and lead them away from extinction.

The Chicken and the Snail

One day a loud chicken met a slimy snail. The chicken was laughing at the snail. The chicken said 'Ha,ha,ha you you are tiny.'

The next day the chicken found a hollow log on the farm while he was looking for food, there was some seeds in the log so the chicken went in and ate the seeds then he went to move but he was stuck.

Later that day the snail was on a slimy stroll when he heard a horrible cluck. It was the chicken.

He went to the chicken and said 'I will help you on one condition you don't make fun of peoples size.'
'Ok just get me out.'
So the snail squished in all the places he could, then he nudged the chicken threw the very slippery slime and he was free from the log then the chicken said 'How can I ever repay you.
'You don't have to repay me just remember this:size doesn't matter.'

Lion and the Cat.

One sunny bright day, Lion was playing with his friends, beside the meadow where there was a beautiful lake.

While Lion and his friends were playing, Cat comes along. '' Meow meow.'' Can I join in?'' asked Cat politely. ''No you can't join in, because you can't do stuff like us, you're too small.'' said mean Lion.

Cat felt really sad. ''That mean old Lion'' Cat said to herself. Mean while Cat walked along the side of the lake. Soon Cat saw some of her friends, on the other side of the lake.

Cat went across the bridge to go and ask if she could play. ''Can I play with you guy's on this beautiful day in the meadow?'' asked Cat. ''Sure you can Cat '' said Cat's friends. ''Thanks for letting me play with you guy's. That mean old Lion excluded me '' Cat said to his friends. '' That's alright that Lion can be a bit mean can't he.'' Cats friends said.

Soon Lion slumbered over sadly to Cat. ''Why are you crying?'' Cat asked. '' Because my friends were being mean'' Lion muttered. '' Can I play with you?'' cried Lion. ''I don't know. Are you to big?'' Cat teased. ''Only if you let me join in with you and you don't exclude me'' said Cat. '' I am sorry, but now I know what it feels like '' said Lion. ''Alright you can play'' Cat said.

So now they play with each other everyday. They are best friends.

So make sure you include people it's not nice to exclude.

Amard

We didn't know she was with us untill we had just entered the exosphere. Then she just popped out of a cupboard. Made us all jump she did. She was five foot, twenty six, all dressed in black with brown hair down to her knees! After a while she became part of our group really. We offered her many clothes and she only exepted one, one dark green dress with silver and gold edging which made her even harder to see. She was strange, she was, always sneaking around no matter what was doing, probably practicing her talent for if aliens came on Amard and she had to hide. Once I caught her fiddeling with the engine controls but I didn't know what she did or how she got through the guarded doors. She was so good at moving unnoticed she could of done it many more times, maybe she did. Next thing I knew we crash landed on Amard. In agony I crawled out of the wreckage and stumbled to a spacesuit mixed in with the rubble, my head was expanding, my vision was gping blurry but it was on I could see clearly now, I could clearly see my friends, wait no not my friends two of them had triangular heads and between them they were dragging a half contious, struggiling Jamie. I was running now but the aliens were quicker, they pulled out their ray guns and shot. I remember nothing more...

When you feel the ground shaking that is when an earthquake is happening, you will either open a door if not open it, and get inside where it shuts or if you are outside find a spot away from large buildings and trees. if you are at school in your class what you would do is you would do is you would go under your desk, hold on to one of the table legs with one hand and have the other hand over your head.

The Fox And The Grapes.

Once there was a little fox.  He sat under a thick branch with the most delicious juicy grapes hanging down above his head. The little fox tried with all his might to get the grapes. He poked and whatever else to try and get them. He tried to climb the tree but the fine trunk was to strait and no matter how hard he tried he just couldn't. The sun was setting and the fox gave up. They were probably completely rotten and way too sour to even lick he thought as he pulled himself away from the grapes and walked towards  home.

As we hopped in the rocket it was very
scary,we were going to this planet that no one has been to or know what's living there. As the count down started we saw somthing moving it was Jamie that tries to apply to go to the planet with us. As we told her to get out it was to late!!
During the flight it was very bumpy and it didn't help that Jamie was playing around all the swiches.
Finally she calmed down and started telling jokes.
Landing was very scary because right in front of us was...... A HUGE ROCK!!!!!
But luckily we were on the right angle to miss the HUGE rock. The planet was very brown and stoney with lots of big holes. Later on we unpacked the rocket then........  me and the caption got destracted by this big rumbling sound. When we turned around everything was out of the rocket but something was still missing it was........ JAMIE!!!! So we  off looking and looking for her, but there was no sign of her, so we set home. Now I know you will be wondering how because you don't have  the rocket. But thank cherrys we had enough signle to to make a phone call to get help to pick us up. But the hardest part of the misson was  explain everything to everyone who loved and that was very close to Jamie the heart breaking news.

The Water Cycle

The water cycle is driven by a massive ball of heat called the Sun.There are many stages of the water cycle like evaporation, transporation, condensation, infiltration, precipitation and many others. Evaporation. it is when liquid water turns to water vapour (an invisible gas that doesn't stink like farts ) after this comes condensation. This is when the water vapour joins up an makes clouds the water vapour continues to join up until it form water droplets and precipitates. precipitation comes in 4 forms rain, sleet hail and snow!!!

Pollution. the worst thing ever. Mainly made by idiot humans if people wise up we will not pollute stuff and more life will flourish . Pollution is made when we put chemicals into the air ground and water it is also caused by radioactive waste and human waste.

We use water for many things like bathing, drinking and fun. but if we don't look after the water cycle we won't be able to use it . you won't have any fresh water if we keep up this rate of pollution.

We use water for lots of things but if we keep polluting it we will have no  water that we can actually drink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mum and Dad are very worried and so am I. But I know you will be ok because you are very sneaky. You should know mum and dad are making me do all of your chores and the cows and sheep are doing fine. But I  am  very sad. Mum said she should have kept you till you are 22. I hope you are doing well. We will come to visit you. We wish war was never invented. Aunty had a baby called Jack and Maisie but Maisie is 3 minutes older than Jack.

A is for ANZAC

ANZAC is the name the Generals gave the soldiers. The soldiers landed on the beach at Gallipoli very early in the morning of April 25th 1915.ANZAC is also the name we give to a special day.
by Sarah

ANZAC

I think that the whole idea of ANZAC is brilliant . Especially ANZAC DAY,that is the day Australia & NZ remember all of their soldiers that went to war . The Last Post is usually played on ANZAC DAY. ANZAC stands for Australia & NZ Army Corpse.
By Jake

N is for Nurses

The ANZACs called the nurses 'front line angels.' It took a long time for the nurses to carry a wounded soldier to the hospital because of the mud and cratered roads. To save time, they built some of the hospitals at the front line.

The nurses who worked in the hospitals were every bit as brave as the men. Their job was to save lives. Many soldiers owe their lives to the 'front line angels.'

Hannahs thoughts on ANZAC

ANZAC stands for Australia New zealand Army Corps. My great grandfather Ray Gover was in World War 2. He was a tool fitter  He ran away to  join the navy. When his ship was torpedoed by an enemy ship Ray was badly injured. Ray was caught in an oil slick, but he managed to swim back and  got a soldier who was unconscious  Ray held the unconscious mans  head above  the water so he did not drown. They were rescued 8 hours later .

ANZAC is about how   all the soldiers who fought for our country. and who died in the war.

ANZAC DIARY ENTRY

July

I am itching to go, we leave tomorrow. I cant wait, it will be such an adventure.Today we went to the ceremony. The streets were full of people, as i marched down the track smiling. I am dressed in my full suit, everyone says I look great. Dad got me a beautiful gift  today, it is the diary I'm writing in now. I am proud of myself. I can't wait to see my brother. I may get homesick. Im a little bit worried.

Hunter's thoughts on ANZAC

I learnt that:

They were helping the britisth.
They lived in dreadful conditions.
Horses were used as well as big tanks.
Poppies were the first thing to grow after the battles.

What I know:
They fought all over the place.
Lots died.
The ones that didn't die got shell shock and had a bad life afterwards.

My thoughts:
War is horrible.
I wouldn't want to be a soldier.

By Hunter

ANZAC thoughts

I know the soldiers somtimes hide in trenches.

I know that most of the soldiers have medals on the left shoulder and some on the right.

I learned army soldiers are not enemy's they are just friends that got chosen to fight for their country.

I learnt that the only thing they eat is biscuits.

I think it is weird they fight when they are friends.

I think nobody should even fight.

X is for xenyl chloride

Gas was used as well as bullets and bombs. It was a nasty weapon which killed many ANZAC's and left others very sick. Some ANZAC's were so sick, that 60 years after being gassed, they were still in hospital. Imagine spending your entire life in hospital.

Dylans thoughts on ANZAC

WW1 was not a good place. There were lots of deaths, funerals,VCs and awards. ANZAC stands for Australia New Zealand Army Corp. People waiting at home for them sometimes wrote letters to the soldiers. If the soldiers were held prisoner they weren't allowed to talk about how horrible it was. All the soldiers had to be in a trench as long as their not injured. If the soldiers wanted to have a sleep they would have to dig a hole and sleep in it.

                                         By Dylan

ANZAC Day

What I know about the ANZAC war is that it was very dangerous, loud and not a fun place to be in. The ANZACs had to eat bully beef and fly stew, if you wonder why fly stew its because fly would fly into there stew (Yuck!) Some of the ANZACs who survived the war said "The bullets were like hailstones whizzing past my body,'' Also some of the ANZACs couldn't sleep  because they had nightmares about the war.

ANZAC

My class and I have been learning about Anzac. We've been learning about our ancestors who went to war and what the soldiers did for us. We also learned what the poppies mean. I think the whole idea of Anzac is to remember those who fought for our country. We should be very grateful for the men who were killed for our fredom.
By Talia

ANZAC Day

On and around ANZAC Day you should wear a poppy as a sign of remembrance for those who fought
for our country.

The ANZAC service this year had a great turn out, the speeches were sad but made us remember and realize what it was like for all those soldgers who fought in war.

what we know and what we learnt about ANZAC

                                                                        what we know
it was the dead of night on the 24th of April 1915 the ANZACS were about to land ,but with no idea were they were going

                                                                 learnt
Today I know that the men stood in trenches for months. Since that day thousands of ANZACS died by shrapnel, bullets and disease.

My Anzac Grandad

Anzac stands for Australian New zealand Army Corps. My Great Granddad went to war and he survived. He was fighting for England and he got deaf from the noise and my Great Grandma was a nurse. My Great Great uncles were in war but the passed away their. We celebrate Anzac day for the people that fought for our country. If soldiers were prisoners in war, they weren't allowed to write bad things in their letters or the Germans wouldn't send it.

My thoughts on Anzac

My thoughts on Anzac

                                               What I know
It was a fight for freedom on the 25th of April people left there jobs to fight for there county. This was a cold frosty morning. They set off  to fight at Gallipoli. As the moon rose they hit the beach but they didn't realise that they docked the wrong beach. until they climbed the steep steep cliff and saw Turks sanding there waiting. Thousand of soldiers got shot but we will still remember them for their BRAVERY!!!! Ella

ANZAC V for Villers-Bretonneux (Bret-on-er)

Villers-Bretonneux is a small French village which the ANZACs saved during World War One.
A British General (who had won a Victoria Cross) said that the Australian attack was 'perhaps the greatest individual feat of the war.'

By Vanessa.

My thought on Anzac day

I think that it was a horrible time. They had hardly any good food, but on top of that they lived in muddy ,yuk trenches. And only a few yards away are people that were trying to kill them. And there were away from there family's for so long. And most of them were so so sick. I hope that nothing like that  ever happens again.

B for Bully Beef

For several days all ANZAC people could eat when they were at war was what they brought with them and Bully Beef. To fill people up before going to war people had to eat, some sugar, some tea and some very hard biscuits.

My Thoughts Of ANZAC

I'm glad I live today thanks to the brave ANZACs who went to war to protect NZ. We are lucky the war is over and their is peace and no battle fields. I am happy because ww3 isn't right now. If there was no ANZACs NZ may not be owned to New Zealanders and we may be slaves today. As well its good Hitler didn't take over world. Its good ww3 is not happening right now or we could be bombed any second and be killed but its not happing right now. Brayden

E for Enlistment

When Australia joined the war on the side of the British, many raced to the nearest army barracks to enlist.

My Thoughts On ANZAC

Know guns, cannons, soldiers and boats.
I learnt that real ANZAC biscuits were really hard, that the Turkish didn't want to fight the New Zealander's and the Turkish put up white flags.
Thoughts I think 100 years ago it would be really different to our time,  because we have colored  pictures, gadgets/ipods, computers and tv's.

ANZAC THOUGHTS

How would you like to be stuck in the same trench for months and months, eating bully beef a salty yuck food with hard biscuits, hearing bang, crash bang, all day long. Cannons, bombs, guns and dead bodies lay everywhere. Blood yelling and friends dying. Compared to our peaceful, loving, friendly life with real food, family, friends and School.

ANZACs and Us.

On Saturday most of the children got out of bed early, put their school uniforms on (even though it was Saturday) and came down to the Anzac Oval to take part in the Winton Anzac Service.
